Betty Jean "Mammy" Cates Brown- On March 14, 2014, our beloved Mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great - great grandmother, Betty, (Mammy) went to be with her Lord and the members of her family waiting for her. She passed away at home with her family. She was 86. Betty was born January 24, 1928, in Pocatello to Fred and Maggie Cutler Cates, the youngest daughter of their 6children. Betty attended Tyhee Elementary, and Irving Jr. High schools. She lived on the Fort Hall Reservation and in Pocatello all her life. She was married to Merton LeRoy Brown. They divorced and she never remarried. Betty enjoyed taking care of her home and doing yard work. There was never a weed brave enough to show itself in her yard. When ill health prevented her from living at home any longer, she lived with her daughter and son in law. She enjoyed being with her family, and loved the visits from them. She was very proud to be the head of 5 generations. She was a member of the Shoshone Bannock Tribes in Fort Hall, Idaho. Betty is survived by her children, son Fredrick Brown and daughter Mary (Dennis) Wheelock, granddaughters Debbie Wheelock, Rebecca (Scott) Robinson and Kristina (Shawn) Williams, great grandchildren, Michael Pease, Timothy Pease, Calli Pease, Camry Burke, Katie Burke, Kaloni Williams and Tyler Williams and great- great grandsons, Lukas Schwab and Caleb Knight, and a special sister in law Nona Cates. Also thank you to Dr. Michael Callaghan and the wonderful staff of the Cancer Center. You were instrumental in giving us four more precious years to be with mom.
