Betsy “Betty” Lavon Hansen was born in Fort Hall, Idaho on December 27, 1929, the daughter of Erma and Henry Hansen, and the eighth of 11 children. She graduated from Challis High School. She was a long-time resident of Pocatello, where she met and married Ross C. Kelly. They had 3 children: Dwayne Clinton Kelly, Betsy Ross Duncan, and Patricia Ann Kennings. In the latter years of her life, she lived in Nampa, Idaho. She passed away in Pocatello on June 20, 2009. She was active and independent to the last day of her life.
She is survived by her children, her brother, Wayne Hansen, her sisters: Eva Kelly, Violet Sullivan, Cheyrral Pittman, and Rosalie Billman. Her grandchildren are: Jennifer Griffen, Brock Kelly, Kellie McCann, Taryn Mendenhall, Megan Cook, Lauren Martin, Jessica Lakatos, Joseph Lakatos, and Justin Lakatos. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
“Betty” was devoted to caring for her family, raising the children of several generations. Her family is planning a celebration of her life in Blackfoot, ID on September 5, 2009.
