Our loving Mother and friend passed away Tuesday, February 7th, 2012, at her home in Chubbuck, Idaho, at the age of 74.
Beth was born at home to Rullen Nells Aschliman and Thelma Marie Tanner on West 18th Street in Idaho Falls, Idaho on October 3, 1937. How proud she was that she was born in the same house her father built.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents whom she adored and her grandparents, her son Norman Mark Butcher (age 32); her siblings and spouses sister Marvel (Roy) Williams; brother Bob Aschliman, sister Loris (Marvin) Campbell; sister Carma (Nick) Nichols; brother Gordon Aschliman (age 2), and her baby granddaughter Tymarie Smith, in addition to eight other children who didn't live past birth.
Beth is survived by her 3 children: Michael Butcher (Jackpot, Nevada); Melanie Smith and husband Jeff, (Chubbuck, Idaho); John Fickbohm, (Twin Falls, Idaho) and her husband Steven Fickbhom (Twin Falls, Idaho). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Nolan Michael and Justin Ryan Butcher (Salt Lake City, Utah); Austin Butcher, (Spokane, Washington); Brandon, Justin, Alyssa, Tanner, and Spencer Smith, (Chubbuck, Idaho); Rain and Snow Fickbohm and their mother Jennifer Hinkle (Twin Falls, Idaho) and a brother Pat Aschliman, Washington State. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved to interact with over the years both as children and adults.
We cannot remember our Mother without recognizing the importance of her precious friend in life Joyce Butcher Ward, Idaho Falls, who have been best friends, sister-in-laws, and confidents for over 61 years. Seldom in this life does anyone have a sustaining friendship of this magnitude and longevity.
Her children and grandchildren were the focus of her life. Mom's career choice was that of being a devoted mother and grandmother. To support that endeavor, she often times had to work many jobs to support her children. One of our favorite jobs she worked was at Winchell's doughnuts, for obvious reasons. Mom was so proud of the fact that by selling Avon for over 25 years, she was able to accumulate a complete set of Avon's china pattern and collectibles to pass on to her children.
Beth was known for her quick wit and unique sharp sense of humor. She enjoyed bowling over the years and spending time outdoors with her family. Her father taught her how to play chinese checkers which she loved to pass on how to play chinese checkers, cards, and board games. All of us growing up shared her love for board games and were raised with lively pinochle parties with aunts, uncles, and friends.
Mom's passion for animals was surpassed by none. Her special calling was to take in any critters that needed to be treated special, including retired police drug dogs.
Services will be under the direction of Wilks Funeral Home, Chubbuck, Idaho. Our family would like to express our genuine gratitude to Brock Wilks for his sensitivity and genuine concern for our family during this time.
We feel incredibly blessed to have had Mom under the care of Scott Malm, PA and his office staff including Melinda. Job skills can be trained; however, compassion cannot. Their compassion and understanding were a gift. A special and sincere thanks would like to be expressed to Darren West from Caring Hearts home health services. He went above and beyond his responsibility to help us take care of Mom.
Service information will be posted under the "Service Schedule" tab as it becomes available.
Please take a moment to share your condolences with the family.
