Bernice Kinghorn

September 27, 1920 — February 1, 2018

Our sweet mother, Bernice Barrow Kinghorn, passed away February 1, 2018 in Pocatello, Idaho.

Bernice was born September 27, 1920 in Rigby, Idaho, to John Adelbert Barrow and Hazel Glenn Barrow. She was raised on a farm where Rigby Lake is now located. She was the fourth child in the family. Her mother died when she was 8 years old.

Bernice attended school in Rigby, and she graduated from Rigby High School in 1938. When her sister Lenore married and her brother, Deb, joined the army and left to serve in the Pacific during World War II, her father sold the farm and he and Bernice moved to an apartment in Rigby. She worked and helped take care of her sister Lenore's daughters.

Bernice met Dwain Kinghorn at Riverside Garden in Rigby, and soon became an "item." They were both excellent dancers and spent many evenings dancing in each other's arms. They were married October 5, 1940, in Rigby, at her sister Lenore's home. They were sealed as an eternal family in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1951.

They lived in Idaho Falls and later moved to Pocatello where they remained. Bernice was primarily a homemaker, and at times worked outside of the home. She spent time working for J.J. Newberry, Tyhee Elementary School, and Del Monte Meat Market.

Bernice was active in her church, serving in the Primary, Relief Society, Sunday School, Ward Librarian and many years as a dedicated visiting teacher. Bernice and Dwain worked for many years at the Idaho Falls Temple and served full time mission in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana mission.

She enjoyed doing many activities with her friends and family. She loved her flower garden and walked many miles at the pine Ridge Mall. She was an avid crossword puzzle and word search fan.

Bernice was a wonderful quilter and made quilts for all of her children and grandchildren that will be cherished for many years.

Bernice was preceded in death by; her parents, brothers, John Adelbert (Helen) Barrow, Glen Arnold Barrow; sister, Hazel Lenore (Lee) Hubbard; husband, Dwain Alexander Kinghorn and great-grandson, Brody Alberston.
She is survived by; her children, Elaine (Wesley) Albertson; Orin "Spike" (Barbara) Kinghorn, Patricia Sue (Jim) Critchley; Carla Jean (Harris) Gilbert; Kathryn (Paul) Willes; Steven Dwain (Lisa) Kinghorn; 26 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, 10 great great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way.
