Bernell Rayburn Rieck

February 28, 1945 — October 25, 2022

Bernell Rayburn Rieck went home to be with the Lord at the age of 77 years old on October 25, 2022 at Caring Hearts Memory Care in Pocatello, ID.


Bernell was born on February 28, 1945 in Fargo, North Dakota to parents Reinhold Rieck and Blanche Lostegaard Rieck. Bernell was the oldest of four children. He grew up on the family farm on the Casselton, North Dakota area and attended school there. After high school, he served in the National Guard. Bernell was trained in diesel mechanics at Wahpeton State School of Science.


He married Marian Schumacker on October 11, 1969. They were married for 45 years. During those years, they raised a family of three children and farmed together. They divorced in 2014.


Bernell was an active member of the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion. He looked forward to Labor Day weekends and volunteering at the event, taking one or two of the antique tractors from his collection which he loved working to restore. He also enjoyed tractor pulling. He loved taking camping trips with his family when the children were growing up. He always enjoyed lending a helping hand to anyone in need.


Bernell is survived by his children Steven (Hollie) Rieck, Port Byron, Illinois; Susan (Brandon) Pifer, Pocatello, Idaho; Matthew (Lori) Rieck, Pocatello, Idaho; his sister, Muriel Aljoe Fargo, North Dakota; sister-in-law Jan Rieck, Durbin North Dakota; friend Diane Fischer, Jamestown, North Dakota; former spouse Marian Rieck, Pocatello, Idaho; his grandchildren Tiffany (James) Mackerly, Texas; Michael Rieck, Isaac and Adaline Rieck, Samantha Pifer, Trevor Ingram and Stephany Moore; great grandchildren Samantha and Jonathan Mackerly, and many nieces and nephews.


He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Larry Rieck; sister JoAnn Rieck, brother-in-law Duane Aljoe and two infant babies, Thomas and Sarah.
