Benjamin Junior Gunn passed away peacefully in his home with his family at his side on Saturday, December 7, 2013. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho on February 28, 1933 to Benjamin George Gunn and Afton (Christensen) Gunn.
Ben graduated from Pocatello High School in 1951. He graduated from BYU with a Bachelors Degree in Spanish and History. He had a gift for learning languages and was fluent in seven. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many callings and served LDS missions in Japan and Mexico City. He also served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War. In 1994, he retired from Union Pacific Railroad after 35 years as a Conductor.
Ben met his bride, Maria Elia Guajardo in Brownsville, Texas. They married on November 1, 1963 in Los Angeles, California. This marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
Ben is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maria Gunn; their ten children, Ben (Jeanne) Gunn; Celeste Gunn; Larry (Amy) Gunn; Pablo Gunn; Miguel (Tess) Gunn; Terry (Karen) Gunn; Eric (Rosemir) Gunn; Veronica Gunn; Afton Gunn and Arturo (Valerie) Gunn; a sister, Goria Hancock of San Diego, California; 36 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Ben will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Fort Hall LDS Branch Chapel on Highway 91. A viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. this evening, Thursday, December 12th at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. The interment will follow the services at Mountain View Cemetery with Military Rites provided by Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. His funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Wilks Funeral Home.
