Barbara Jane Martin

Barbara Jane Miller Martin was born to Henry Edward Miller and Alice Naomi Whelpley on February 14, 1923 in Ashtobula, Ohio. She passed away on February 12, 2011 in Pocatello, Idaho.

At the age of 2 her father passed away, and at the age of 5 she, her mother, and sister moved to Spokane, Washington to live with her aunt, Bessie A. Whelpley. She graduated from Washington Grade School and in 1940, from Lewis and Clark High School.

In 1941 she, along with her mother and sister, moved to Moscow, Idaho. She attended the University of Idaho and became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. In 1942 she worked for the Idaho First National Bank for four years. In 1946 she moved to Boise and worked for Idaho Power Company. In 1947 she married C. Ben Martin and they lived in Cascade, Idaho where he was prosecuting attorney. In July of 1948 her son, C Brian Martin was born, and her son David Shaun, was born in 1951 after they had moved back to Boise. IN 1953 David Shaun passed away. She and Ben were later divorced and she moved to Mercer Island, Washington where, a year later, she and Ben remarried. They were divorced in 1959.

Barbara went to work at Idaho Power Company in 1960 in the treasury department for Bill Coy and Harold Snyder and Sr. Vice President, F. Robert Klumpp, for a total of 27 ½ years. After retirement she volunteered for 18 years at St. Lukes Medical Center in Boise. She enjoyed many travels throughout the United States, gardening and duplicate bridge.

In September of 2009 Barbara moved from her home in Boise to Pocatello. There she was able to be with family. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Quail Ridge Assisted Living Center and Creekside Home Health & Hospice for all the loving care they gave to Barbara.

She is survived by; a loving daughter-in-law, Diane Watson-Martin; step-grandchildren, Lisa (Alvin) Guthrie and children; Ashley, Ivory, and Brittany (Travis) Johson; Lynda (Lee) Pierson and children Stephanie (Jeremy), Ty and Rob (Nicole) children Macie and Kyler; Michael (Andrea) Watson and children, Sarah, Dylan and Cameron; Lori Cunningham and children, Ross and Jean; and Richard Watson. Also great-great-grandchild born to Brittany and Travis, Jacie May and Boe. Also by a niece Eloidi (Ron) McBride and three great nephews, Michael (Dawn) McBride, Randy McBride and Sean McBride. And Loving cat, Molly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Anna Roberta Miller Gugnonie and husband Walter E. Gugnonie, and her two sons, Charles Brian Martin and David Shaun Martin.

She has requested that no services be held and cremation to be followed by a scattering of her ashes in the mountains in Inkom, Idaho. In lieu of flowers donation may be sent in Barbara's name to your local Humane Society.
