Barbara Darlyn Harris

November 12, 1945 — December 1, 2020

Barbara Darlyn Garvin Harris passed on to her eternal home on Tuesday evening, December 1st , 2020 surrounded by her Husband and family members in her Inkom home. She was born November 12th, 1945 as the first daughter of Robert Carson Garvin and Carmen Joan Salisbury in San Deigo California. She was raised in the Pocatello Idaho area attended Jefferson Grade School followed by Irving Junior High and then graduated from Pocatello High School in 1963. Shortly after graduation she began working for Farmers Insurance in Pocatello and in July she first met her "Mr. Wonderful": Rodger. After roughly 13 months of dating, they tied the knot on August 29th, 1964 at the Central Christian church in Pocatello. Barbara was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on March 6 of 1965 and on June 25th of the following year she and Rodger were sealed in the Idaho Falls temple for time and all eternity. In the fall of 1966 the couple made preparations to move to Richland Washington to open a Red Steer restaurant with Rodger's brother Bob. Just before the move they discovered Barbara was expecting their first child, and they welcomed Cindi's arrival on May 8th 1967. Scott came into the family with a bang about 2 years later on July 4, 1969. In 1972 they moved back to Pocatello where they spent the next 2 years in an old colonial style house on Grant Street. In 1974 they made their final move to their brand new home in Inkom. In 1977, they welcomed their second daughter, Alana, to their home on April 15th followed by Shane on September 3rd of 1978.

Barbara and family loved their animals throughout the years. They have had many cats and dogs, a few birds, a hamster, and even welcomed a couple of ferrets to their home for a time. All of them held a special place within Barbara's heart and brought much comfort in lonely and dark times.

Pretty much from the day she was baptized she was a very faithful servant of the Lord. She accepted callings beginning with the Secretary of Mutual and ending with her latest calling of Primary Teacher with her sweetheart. Other callings included multiple stints in the Primary organization to include Teacher, In-service Leader, Presidency member on multiple occasions, and the Primary Targeteer Leader in Washington. She also loved working in the Activity Days program occasionally assisted by her daughter Cindi. Various Mutual/Young Women's organizations were blessed by her presence in the Beehive, Mia Maid and Laurel Advisor positions, Young Women's Secretary in two Wards, Young Women's presidency including one period when she was the President. In the Sunday School organization she again honorably served as Junior Sunday School Coordinator. Her talents and extraordinary spirit also extended to positions within the Relief Society. Here she made her mark on many lives as Chorister, Secretary, Second-Sunday Instructor, First Counselor, President and served as Compassionate Service leader for a number of years. In addition to these she and Rodger served as Ward and Stake missionaries, Ward Activities Committee Chairs, and have been instrumental in the assisting countless people to trace their family trees through approximately 15 years of serving in the Pocatello and McCammon Family History Center Libraries.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 56 years (Rodger) in Inkom, Idaho; a daughter Cindi (Rob) Cockrell in Inkom, Idaho; a son Scott (Rachel) Harris in Chubbuck, Idaho; a daughter Alana (Greg) Beal in Sheridan, Wyoming; a son Shane (Renee) Harris in Midland, Texas, 24 grand children; 21 great grand children; a Brother Richard (Peggy) Garvin, Idaho; a brother David Garvin, and a sister Vicki Garvin all of Pocatello; along with two beloved pets Bella (dog) and Slick (cat).
