Barbara Ann Lynch passed away December 22, 2023.
Barbara was born to Julian and Lillian Cockrell on October 21, 1935 in Eros, LA, the second of six children. She attended schools in Bastrop, LA, which was where she was still living when she met Jerrold Lynch.
Barbara and Jerry married in October 1956. As the wife of an ambitious chemical engineer, she moved regularly, often it seemed like back and forth, all the while raising three sons, Daniel, David, and Douglas. Throughout their marriage they lived in (in no particular order) Texas (Houston), Louisiana (Shreveport, West Monroe, and Luling twice), Arkansas (Pine Bluff and Helena), Idaho (Soda Springs, Pocatello, and Island Park), Florida (Lakeland twice), and even spent a couple years in Canada.
With each new home came new adventures and new commitments. Barbara was always active in community affairs, regularly volunteering in various organizations, and was even elected to the Soda Springs School Board after a nail biting write-in candidacy. As the boys grew up and moved in their own directions, Barbara turn her focus to building a successful career in central Florida real estate.
Wherever Barbara and Jerry went, they always had their cats and dogs to share their adventures with. In retirement they fell in love with the adventurous-yet-laid-back lifestyle found in Island Park, where they counted the local moose population as adjunct family members when they weren’t hiking, canoeing, skiing, snow shoeing, or snowmobiling.
Barbara is survived by her youngest sister Linda (William) Harkness, her sons Dan, Dave (Kim), and Doug, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, her parents Julian and Lillian, her sister Elaine, and her brothers Jerrell, Ronald, and Harold.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Quail Ridge, Caring Hearts, and Heritage Hospice for their excellent care in her final years.
Barbara’s Idaho friends are invited to join the family at 11 a.m. on April 13, 2024 at Wilks Funeral Home in Chubbuck, Idaho, to reminisce and celebrate her life at an open house.
A memorial service will subsequently be held on 11 a.m. April 27, 2024 at McClendon Baptist Church, 206 Downing Pines Rd, West Monroe, LA.
