B. Craig "Red" Dudley

B. Craig "Red" Dudley, 71, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at his home. Red was born August 19, 1947 in Pocatello, Idaho to excited parents Jack LaMont and Bonnie Hocking Dudley. Bonnie was wanting a red headed boy and that was what she got. He was joined later by 3 sisters Becky Sue, Jill Ann, and Sally Jo. Red was born in Pocatello, but as a toddler he moved to Seattle where his father became employed by Boeing. He spent his boyhood enjoying baseball and frequenting the Boys and Girls Club in their neighborhood. He attended Sealth High School where he enjoyed sports more than academics. He lettered in tennis and long distance running. His senior year he moved to Pocatello to live with his aunt, Ada Yowell, so he could establish residency to attend I.S.U. He thought he wanted to be a pharmacist, but when his aunt had her kitchen remodeled he was smitten with the smell of sawdust and the idea of building lasting structures. He started his apprenticeship in carpentry through the Vocational School at ISU the day after high school graduation. His aunt owned the caf at the Tough Guy Bowling Alley, where he met the love of his life Carolynn Rasmussen. They were married on June 16, 1967 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2017. Red always knew he would marry a girl from Idaho and fate put them together when his aunt employed him to sit at the counter on Saturday nights to be sure no drunks hit on Carolynn. He became the one who hit on her. From this union three extraordinary children joined them to create a family. First was Amy Lynn, then Christopher Craig, and finally Trevor LaMont. The most joyful thing in his life was his family. He would show anybody saw dusty pictures of his kids to anyone who would look at them. Then when grandchildren came, which there were 8, he ramped the bragging up even more. His career as a carpenter took him to many places to build bridges, hospitals, parking structures, schools, overpasses, and houses. When we traveled he loved pointing out projects he worked on until the kids would say, "We know Pops you built that!" He began his career with an apprentice for Brennan Construction and ended as a project superintendent for them. His last project before retirement was the Cardio Office Building at Pocatello Medical. He never knew at the time he was building it, he would spend so much time there. In the middle of his career he had his own construction business REDCO. After retiring at the age of 60, his health started on a path with several heart attacks and strokes. We became too familiar with the structure he built. For the next 10 years he suffered the effects of a bad heart. The last 2 years were spent with Home Health and then Hospice. He told Carolynn two weeks before passing he'd go quick, and he did. Red loved to golf and loved playing with the Nooners at Riverside anytime he could. He went on several trips with buddies to St. George and Mesquite so he could play during the winter. When his passion for this waned, we knew the health issues were taking over. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in the bishopric, stake high council, and high council at the women's prison. He is survived by his wife Carolynn; daughter, Amy Lynn (Kevin Frei); sons, Christopher Craig (Georgia), and Trevor LaMont (Brittany); eight beautiful and talented grandchildren, Meffan, Chloe, and Casen Frei, McKenna and Tessa Dudley, and Carter, Laynie, and Gracie Dudley; his mother, Bonnie Dudley; and three sisters, Becky Butcher, Jill Borrows, and Sally Hagen. He was preceded in death by his father Jack LaMont Dudley. He loved his family with all of his heart and adored his wife. He was great at one liners and making people laugh. He loved traveling with Carolynn and making a new friend wherever they went. He was a hugger which he learned from his family. His hugs, sense humor, and love will be missed. A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 5-7 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho. Funeral services will be on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11 am at the LDS Indian Hills Ward, 5425 S. Bannock Hwy. Pocatello, ID, with a viewing for one hour prior. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
