Arthur Dean Peters

July 16, 1944 — December 13, 2023

Arthur Dean Peters, 79, was born on July 16th, 1944 in Aberdeen Idaho to Albert and Susie Peters. He had an older sister Caroline, and would later have a younger sister Doris and a younger brother Kenny. Art lived the early part of his life in Aberdeen, Idaho but lived most of his life in nearby Pocatello, Idaho. He married Sharon Deforest on September 29th, 1972 and they were married for nearly 40 years. They raised one son, Brian. Art worked in car dealerships nearly all of his life, first as a car detailer and later a shuttle driver, and worked until he was seventy-five years old. He lived the last two years of his life in Washington state with his son and daughter-in-law. His savior Jesus Christ called him home on December 13th, 2023.

Art had a great big smile and a twinkle in his eye almost all of the time. This made him a popular guy who seemed to know everybody in Pocatello. He was a committed husband, father, and church attendee, primarily at Rocky Mountain Ministries in Pocatello. He loved classic cars and loved working as a detailer and shuttle driver. This made working at car dealerships a bit dangerous though, because he just couldn’t control himself, and so he ended up owning over thirty cars during his lifetime. He could remember the make and model of almost every one, too. He could often be seen in summer driving one of his classic cars down Yellowstone Avenue, particularly his 1964 Chevy Impala (nicknamed “Old Whitey”). He was also an avid bowler and was a common face to see on various bowling leagues in Pocatello, especially Tough Guy Lanes. But his most important, beloved accomplishments were his marriage and fatherhood. He bowled regularly with his wife and son, and went to every single baseball game his son played in growing up. After Sharon passed away and he moved to Washington, even though he only lived there two years, Art’s big heart and wide smile made a big impression on everyone around him. He made many friends in the 9-Tap Bowling Tour and in New Community Church in Tacoma, Washington. Art was an all-American man of his generation in that he didn’t talk much about his feelings or beliefs, but you could feel his love for you through his actions and his smile.

Art has joined his late wife Sharon in heaven along with many other beloved family members and friends. He is survived by his son Brian Peters (Arielle), his sister Doris Lucero (Vic), his brother Kenny Peters (Jana), and many nieces and nephews. His viewing will be held on January 4th, 2023 at 7pm. His funeral service will be held on January 5th, 2023 at 11am (but there will be a brief viewing from 10am to 11am also). A family luncheon will be held afterward. Flowers can be sent to Wilks Funeral Home in Chubbuck, Idaho.
