Artell Betty Jean Cantrell, 83, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011 in Pocatello, Idaho. Artell was born on August 9, 1927, in Montpelier, Idaho, the daughter of Gilbert and Wanda Bateman. She was the oldest of three children. Her sister Barbra Jean Bateman passed before her. Her brother George Gilbert Bateman (Jodi) lives in Pocatello. Artell's father worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and the family moved frequently throughout her childhood. The family moved to Lima Montana where Artell attended and graduated from Lima High School in 1947. Artell met Hovey Earl Cantrell from Dell Montana and they were married in Lima Montana on June 1, 1947. They moved to Pocatello, Idaho in 1957 where Hovey worked for Garrett Freightlines. Hovey died in 1989. Artell graduated from ISU's nursing program as an LPN in 1968. She worked at Saint Anthony Hospital until it closed and then worked Portneuf Hospital until she retired in 1988. Artell enjoyed gardening in her backyard and having friends and family over in the summer to enjoy good food and fun times; creating fond memories in the hearts of all. Artell is survived by her three children; Linda Cantrell and Robert Cantrell both living in Pocatello and Candace (Carol) Swanson of Santa Margarita, California. As well as sister in law Viola Iverson of Dillon, Montana. Artell's grandchildren were the light of her life and they all have fond childhood memories of spending time with her and their grandpa. Her grandchildren include: Todd Parkin of Asheville, North Carolina; Tawny (Mike) Duran of Ladera Ranch, California; Tiffany "Fanny" Diallo of Wilits, California; Trevor Cantrell (Toni) of Pocatello; Tarcy (Pete) Hilen of Alison Viejo, California; Joshua Schaafs (Ann) of Idaho Falls, Idaho: Tucker Everett Swanson of Dallas, Texas and Amy (Brian) Andrus of Gooding Idaho, great-grandchildren, Skyler Triolo and Sahdjoo Diallo of Wilits, California, Tanner, TaiLynn Treni, and Tess Artell Cantrell of Pocatello, Jase, Taya and Sawyer Hilen of Aliso Viejo California; Payton and Addie Duran of Ladera Ranch, California; Jonah and Maya Parkin of Asheville, North Carolina; Johnny and Dillon Schaafs of Idaho Falls and Dustin, Courtney and Ashley Andrus of Gooding Idaho). Artell rocked and hugged on all 18 of her great grandchildren, her five nieces, and one nephew. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello. A viewing will be held from 1:00- 3:00 PM prior to the services at Colonial. Burial will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the Mountain View Cemetery in Dillon, Montana. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave., Pocatello.
