Aldene J. Pevo, 79, of Fort Hall, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 6, 2020. She will be taken to her home on West Reservation Road on Sunday March 8, 2020 at 11:00 am and will be there until the day of her burial on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 2:00 pm, and then will be take to the Sandhill Cemetery. Aldene was born to Phoebe and John Ponzo at the old Fort Hall Agency Hospital on October 6, 1940. She was raised in Fort Hall, Idaho. She received her education in Pocatello, Idaho. She also received a business certificate through Idaho State University. She then worked in numerous departments for the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes, as well as the Bureau of Indian Affairs where she retired after 30 years of service. Aldene also served on the Fort Hall Business Council. She was an accomplished bead worker, and a self-employed businesswoman. She married Victor J. Currie Sr. in 1959 in Fort Hall. Victor preceded her in death. She then married Herbert Pevo in Reno, NV, who also preceded her in death in 2002. Aldene had 7 children, 31 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Aldene was a member of the Native American Church and participated in traditional ceremonies. Aldene enjoyed traveling all over the Western United States, and Canada. She loved to visit family and friends, while on the handgame trail. She shared her love of handgame with many of her children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren who carry on playing in her memory. She also enjoyed buying and selling her beadwork and supported many local Shoshone Bead Workers. Aldene is survived by and will be deeply missed by her brother Linford Ponzo; six children: Victor John Currie Jr., Velderlee Kim Currie-Bishop, Kaylyn Viola Currie, Trena Ann Currie-Elwell, Veronica Joyce Herkshan, and Hughes Willard Pevo; also her 31 grand-children, 60 great-great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; first cousins and extended family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Phoebe Ponzo; father, John Ponzo,; brothers, Manuel Ponzo and Stacy Ponzo; husband, Victor Currie SR.; husband, Herbert W. Pevo as well as a son Frankie Kevin Currie. Services are listed above in the obituary. Colonial Funeral Home is caring for Aldenes family.
