Alden Crockett

d. January 19, 2012

POCATELLO - Alden William Crockett, 90, of Pocatello, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2012. He was born on September 5, 1921, in Glenn's Ferry, Idaho, to Alvin and Emma Crockett. He was raised in the Glenn's Ferry and King Hill area where the family ran a farm while his father worked on the railroad. He also attended school in Glenn's Ferry and continued his education at Idaho State College for 2 years. Alden met Florence Brumble at a church play they were both in. They were married on December 31, 1942. He served in the US Army for 2 years. As a young man he nearly died in an accident while helping build the Bliss Dam. He helped with the family farm and owned and operated Crockett Diary. He also worked for the railroad for 5 years. Alden was hired by FMC Corporation and retired after working there for 33 years. He was actually only retired the day he died. He always had a project and was always busy. He built barns and houses. There wasn't anything he couldn't do, and if he didn't know then he would learn. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served faithfully in many callings. He served as Bishop of the Bannock Creek Ward for 8 years. When he retired he was worried he wouldn't have enough to do so he volunteered to be the scout master. At the time of his death he was teaching Gospel Doctrine, a calling he had held for 14 years. Most important in his life was his time with his family. He raised cows for many years for extra money to support the family's missionaries. He was an avid reader and had a great knowledge of many subjects. He loved listening to music, especially the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He walked every day, including the day he died. Alden is survived by his son Alden William (Deanne) Crockett Jr. of Garland, UT; son Philip (Nancy) Crockett of Bountiful, UT; daughter Susan (Fred) Hoskins of Pocatello; son Owen (Loretta) Crockett of Declo, ID; daughter Claudine (Allen) Saunders of Pocatello; daughter Janet (Mike) Bowlin of Pocatello; son Steve (Alice) Crockett of Sunset, UT; daughter Vicki Winslow of Pocatello; daughter Tina (Arturo) Canto of Pocatello; daughter-in-law Roxy Crockett of Milpitas, CA; 45 grandchildren and 82 great-grandchildren.
