Acel LaMar Holmes, 88, passed peacefully from this life June 28, 2022 at his home on Mink Creek near Pocatello, Idaho. His wife, Shirley, was at his bedside.
He was a middle child born to Clarence and Alta Kofoed Holmes in 1933 in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho.
Ace was an excellent father, and stepfather. He was a very patient teacher of life skills and the trades. He was a mentor to many, and he will be missed.
In his younger years, he mined fossils in Eastern Oregon. He liked to whistle classical music as part of his daily life.
Ace served the community as a plumber for many years. He especially enjoyed working with steam boilers and hot water heat. Many people came to him for odd parts on weekends for their honey – do lists. He also enjoyed welding and taught that skill to his grandsons and others.
Ace is survived by his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Suzette Mathisen and family; a grandson, Steven Hildreth; and a posterity he gained during the 43 years he was married to Shirley.
Ace didn’t want a conventional funeral. He wanted to tip up one of his trees, plant him under it, and tip it back up. He decided to have a graveside service at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5th Ave., Pocatello, Idaho, on Monday, July 11, 2022 at 11 am.
Immediately following the graveside service, there will be a Celebration of Life for friends to gather to share memories and a meal together, at the Portneuf LDS church, 8200 Portneuf Rd., Pocatello, Idaho. Flowers may be sent to Colonial Chapel, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho.
Memories and condolences may be shared with the family under the "Tribute Wall" tab above.
