Wallace E Browning Jr. passed away at his home on June 12, 2018, in Pocatello, Idaho. Joyce, as well as his children and grandchildren were with him. Wally was born on January 1, 1920 at his family home in Hope Valley, Rhode Island. His early years and schooling were spent in this part of New England. After high school he attended Rice University in Houston, Texas. He served in Italy, France and Germany, and was awarded the Bronze Star, and the Soldiers medal. He was discharged in 1946. He then used the GI Bill to go on to graduate school at Columbia University in New York where he earned both his masters and doctorate degrees. While a student, he tutored private students in both French and Latin. He married Joyce in 1953 in Hope Valley. Both lived in Seattle, Washington, Emporia, Kansas and finally in Pocatello. He joined the faculty at Idaho State University, where he taught in the Physical Education Department. Wally always felt the move to the West to raise his family was important as they enjoyed all the activities of the area that the natural environment provides. Wally was a voracious reader especially of history and his favorite authors. He always enjoyed his garden and in later years it was an important time that he shared with his sons and grandsons A private family memorial will be held at a later date at his home by the sea on the Oregon Coast.
