Shirley Kae Packard

May 23, 1937 — November 12, 2022

Shirley Kae Schwartz Packard passed away Nov 12, 2022. She was 85 years old. Kae, as she was known, was born in Malad, Idaho on May 23, 1937 to Fredrick and Letha Ames Schwartz. Kae was the second child of six, preceded by Colleen (Brower), and followed by Darline (Richards), LaVell, O’Neil, and Denny. Her childhood was spent following whichever road construction job her father had at the time. They lived in a 19’ trailer home and would move frequently throughout southern Idaho and Eastern Oregon. Before she started high school, the family settled in a mobile home in Pocatello where she attended high school at Poky, graduating in the class of 1955. After graduation, Kae worked for the phone company as a switchboard operator.

The following year she married the love of her life, Gordon Lee Packard in the, new at the time, Manning Mortuary chapel on 7 September 1956. This marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS temple on 21 November 1980. To this marriage was born four boys; Larry Lee, Dee Ray, Kent S and Kelly K. Life was busy for her as a mother and wife. After the boys were all in school, she worked for the Pocatello School District central kitchen. She enjoyed the people she worked with in the school district and loved being home in the afternoon as her boys came and went to their varied activities. She retired from the school district as the head cook at Highland High School where she was loved by many. Kae was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a child and became active as an adult. She loved Relief Society and her associations there. Kae loved spending time on genealogy and getting to know distant relatives through calls and letters. After their retirement, Kae and Gordon served a mission in Moapa, Nevada caring for a church property and pools in the oasis there. This was a great experience for both of them.

Kae is preceded in death by her parents (Fred and Letha), husband (Gordon), a son (Kent), a granddaughter (Kelsey), sister (Darline) and great grandson (Michael). She is survived by three sons; Larry (Faith), Dee (Brenda), and Kelly (Laura), eight grandchildren; Justin (Courtney), Ashley (Mark Babcock), Corinne (Justin Hoskin), Conner (Madison), Sheldon, Ryan, Kaylee (Brandon Grigg) and Cameron as well as sixteen great grandchildren.

Shirley Kae Schwartz Packard lived a long, full life making friends wherever she went. She was welcomed into the arms of her loved ones in heaven but will be missed by those she leaves behind.
