Ramona Walema

October 1, 1931 — March 4, 2020

FORT HALL Ramona Bell Walema, 88, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at a local care center. Ramona was born at the old Fort Hall Agency Hospital on October 1, 1931. She was raised in Fort Hall, Idaho and received her education at the Fort Hall schools. She received her GED at Idaho State University and went on to achieve her Masters Degree in Ethno Botany at Idaho State University. She married Claude Plentywounds in Pocatello, Idaho, who preceded her in death. She then married Theodore Walema in Pocatello, Idaho. Ramona had 13 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Ramona taught the Bannock language and traditional Indian Arts at Sho-Ban High School. She also taught her children, grandchildren about traditional healing plants and making willow cradle boards. She was a minister and pastor of the First American Gospel Church Radio Broadcast Ministry. She was most recently involved in ministering at camp meetings she traveled to. She was also a powwow vendor of arts and crafts where she met a lot of friends. Ramona was most proud of all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed visiting and directing her granddaughters and daughter to basket weave, and make traditional cradle boards. Ramona is survived by her sons, Dorsey Claude Plentywounds of Fort Hall, Charley Boyd Plentywounds, Lyle Plentywounds Sr., and Clinton Gary Plentywounds. Also, a daughter Connie Lou Plentywounds. Ramona was preceded in death by her father Charley Bell, her mother Annie Pete Bell, a sister Amy Bell, granddaughters Thelma Mae Coby and Rebecca K. Plentywounds, a grandson Yazzie B. Plentywounds, a niece Bernadette Bell, a great granddaughter Gracie K. Plentywounds, and a great grandson Phillip Dewey. Ramona will be taken to the Good Shepherd Mission Church, 22 North Mission Road, Fort Hall, ID, on Thursday, March 5 at 11 a.m., with her funeral service to be held on Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m. also at the Mission Church. Her burial services will be at 2 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Mission Cemetery in Fort Hall at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2020.
